From the centre of Brantôme, the "Venice" of the green Périgord built in a loop of the Dronne, reach the Château de la Hierce by taking, on foot or by bike, the narrow Eiffel footbridge which spans the river. Walk along the low wall on your left and discover the Renaissance dwelling built in the 1530s on caves that served as its foundations.
While your guide tells you the history of the Château de la Hierce, the outdoor visit reveals a dwelling with a watchtower, mullioned windows and a loggia interrupted by a circular tower. After passing through the caves decorated with prehistoric paintings, take a stroll in the park laid out as a botanical garden which brings together several hundred species characteristic of the flora of the Dronne valley.
