30 min from the Basque coast, the Commune of Sames offers a surprising view. The Bec des Gaves is the place where the Gaves together flow into the Adour. Gaves réunis is the 10 km section which separates the confluence of the Gave de Pau, Oloron, from the confluence with the Adour. Depending on the season, it is possible to observe the difference in colour of the waters. On the road that runs along the Gaves and the Adour, one discovers fields of kiwis (green and yellow), and horses enjoying these lands enriched by the silt. In winter, these "barthes" (floodplains in Gascony), welcome thousands of migratory birds (cranes, swans, storks ...) visible from the road. The exceptional luminosity of this picturesque landscape does not displease artists. Fishing has also always marked life on the banks of the Adour. Picnic areas, fishing pontoons for the physically handicapped.
