The Baïse river has its source in Lannemezan and meanders for nearly 200 kilometres before flowing into the Garonne at Saint-Léger.
Navigable since the Middle Ages, it was developed under Henry IV and favoured the economic development of Albret thanks to the trade of agricultural and industrial products transported to Bordeaux and then across the Atlantic.
Today, it is once again open to navigation from April to October. Pleasure boats thus sail up the river in fine weather over more than 60 km from Valence-sur-Baïse to Buzet-sur-Baïse thanks to its 21 locks.
