At the end of the XIX century, bars and artists' studios were animating this place which was at that time called the Island of Grande Jatte. This is the name that Alfred Sisley gave to his painting in 1873. At the time, he likes to paint Paris and its surroundings and finds his inspiration in the landscapes as the banks of the Seine. The island of Jatte, famous place of celebration, was painted at the same time by other painters like pointillist George Seurat with his famous "" A Sunday afternoon on the Island of the Grande Jatte "".
