Louis XIV decided to build a new palace in the valley of Marly. The beginning of the works took place in 1679 and in 1684 the King was able to go there for the first time. The architect was Jules Hardouin-Mansart. The originality of this castle lies in its unusual architecture in the middle of the greenery. In the center is the square Royal Pavilion and twelve pavilions for the guests framed the gardens. The pools were powered by a hydraulic machine, pumping water into the Seine. This water was transported by the aqueduct of Louveciennes.
Abandoned by Louis XV and Louis XVI, the castle slowly started falling apart. It was looted in 1789 then bought by a Parisian who set up a cotton mill and a fabric factory in.
Napoleon installed his troops that will contribute to its destruction.
There is no longer any visible trace of the castle, with the exception of the ground representation of the walls of the Royal Pavilion.
