Église de la Madeleine

Église de la Madeleine
Église de la Madeleine

Description

Temporary closure during works

La Madeleine church was originally a priory run by monks in the 11th century. It was not until after the French Revolution that it became the parish church. The current building, rebuilt in the 19th century, features a bell tower-porch and a nave with three naves, typical of the religious architecture of the period.
One of the church's outstanding features is its organ, built in 1863. The church also features a stained-glass window in the south wall by Gabriel Loire, a master glassmaker from Chartres and a native of Pouancé, who was an important figure in 20th-century stained-glass art.
