8. ROMANESQUE CHAPEL

8. ROMANESQUE CHAPEL

Sponsored by medieval confraternities to worship their patron saint in the 12th century, the ornamented Romanesque portal with balls on the chamfer is preserved. Its use as living quarters is documented as of the 15th century on account of the building's state of ruin as a result of the feudal wars. It is probable that the chapel was annexed to one of the terraced houses that still remained in the surroundings. In the Middle Ages there were several chapels in Tui, such as the chapel of St Nicholas, St Martin, or the chapel of the Holy Body.
