A PICOTA

Description

This place has changed a great deal over time. These days, only its name recalls its former role in Medieval uses and customs in practices related to the teaching of justice. This place is also where the so-called “A Pedra do Argazo” (Seaweed Stone) is found. There neighbours were convened to collect seaweed.

A “picota” is a scroll or column of stone or brick that used to stand at the entrance to certain places where the heads of convicts or people who were executed were publicly displayed.
