Description

Tamié abbey, still houses more than thirty Cistercian monks who continue
to make one of the savoie’s famous cheeses: Tamié.
Voici la traduction de la présentation détaillée de l'Abbaye de Tamié dans les 4 langues :

🇬🇧 Anglais (EN)
The founding of this monastery dates back to 1132, when the Cistercians set out, alongside the Carthusians of Aillon and the Benedictines of Bellevaux, to clear and cultivate the Bauges area. The current buildings date from the late 17th century and have been occupied by Trappist monks since the 1860s.

Since its origins, Tamié has had a tradition of hospitality. Whether welcoming day visitors or guests staying for a few days, the community strives to offer an environment of silence and contemplation, as well as an attentive ear.

The Abbey itself is not open for tours, as it is the active home of a community of monks who divide their time between prayer, study, and manual labor.

However, right after the parking area, 300 meters before the monastery, the Saint-Pierre de Tarentaise Visitors' Centre allows you to discover this exceptional site while respecting monastic life. There, you will find an audio-visual presentation on the monks' daily life (duration: 20 minutes), available from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm (6:00 pm in winter) on weekdays, and from 11:45 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sundays. Opening hours may vary during curfews or changing health regulations. Please check the website for details.

A shop selling religious books and monastic products, including the famous Tamié cheese, is also at your disposal.

You can walk up to the monastery on foot and enter the church to pray or take part in one of the daily services.

Near the parking area, you will also find the Chalet Saint-Lambert, which features a picnic room.
