"The beach isn't just sand, it's also a natural habitat for many species".

The beaches of Saint-Brevin are the only ones in the Loire-Atlantique region where the Red-necked Plover nests. This small bird is a protected species, and we ask you to be particularly vigilant when walking on our beaches, especially the Ermitage beach, which has been identified as a nesting site.

Gravelots lay their eggs in the sand, and their eggs have the same colour as the sand - you could inadvertently crush them.

Here are a few tips to help protect them:

- Make sure that access to the site you are visiting is authorised.
- Stay on marked footpaths.
- Keep your dog on a lead.
- Avoid the top of the beach and the dunes; stay on the wet sand instead.
- During the egg-laying season, certain areas are marked with signs appropriate to the protection operation, so please respect them.

And above all, if you see a bird on the ground calling repeatedly, move away as this is a manoeuvre designed to keep you away from its nest.
