Born in Chile in 1951. From an early age in Valdivia, Pedro de Leon was fascinated by painting under the influence of the master watercolourist Mr Ricardo Andwandter, who lived and worked in Valdivia.
In 1970, Pedro De Leon studied painting at the Sociedad Nacional de Bellas Artes in Santiago, Chile, under the guidance of the painter Adolfo Guerrero. During the 1970s, Chile was going through a period of major social and political change, and as a young artist Pedro De Leon took an interest in this. He helped to promote the Brigades de Peintures Murales, where he first met the Chilean painter Roberto Matta.
Pedro de Leon arrived in Paris in 1976 with the intention of continuing his studies in painting. In 1977 he entered the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA), where he was particularly attracted by the Mural Expression studio run by the painter Jean Bertholle, the Fresco studio run by M. Lenormand and the Painting Techniques studio run by the excellent teacher M. Nicolas Wacker. In 1982, Pedro De Leon obtained a Higher Diploma in Fine Arts under the guidance of painter Pierre Matthey.
Pedro De Leon made several trips to Holland, Korea, Japan, China and, in particular, Italy to study the masters of the 14th and 15th centuries, and was particularly taken by the works of Piero Della Francesca.
Private lessons are available for those wishing to study at art school.
