The Rashi House welcomes you into the heart of the 17th century buildings of the Troyes Synagogue with a program of visits and cultural mediations, available all year long, with programs adapted to different interests.

These visits will plunge you into the heart of the history of a congregation which has existed for a thousand years, and will highlight the key figure of the history of the Jewish community of Troyes, Rashi, a famous 11th century exegete rabbi of Troyes: he has become “the reference” for commentary of the Bible and the Talmud; his writings are still taught today to all Jews worldwide, starting at age 5, in order to clarify the meaning of the text and thus be able to understand it better. Come discover the history of Rashi and his disciples, who were able to transmit the soul of French Judaism far beyond the borders of the Champagne area!

The Rashi House of Troyes invites you to an incredible trip in time via a stroll through the 2000 square meters of our restored buildings. The recreated oratory and bet hamidrash (study hall) will plunge you into the medieval Troyes of Rashi! You will discover too the splendid glass roof which completely covers the sanctuary. You will also visit the exhibition galleries which recount the adventure of this reconstruction, and highlight Rashi by an innovative scenographic approach to his work and his history!

An extraordinary project has been created in the synagogue of Troyes: to provide a house for Rashi in his native town, by enhancing his universal spiritual, historical and architectural heritage, that we will help you to share. An experience of openness and transmission unique in France: follow in the footsteps of the master of French Judaism and discover the heritage of Troyes!

An introduction to Judaism designed for the general public allows you to better understand Rashi and the importance of his work in Jewish tradition.

-International visitors: visits are available in French, English, Spanish and Hebrew.

- Visit prices: 24€ per adult - 12€ up to 13 years old - Free for children under 6 years old
and for students on proof.
