Why Watch The Lion King
When it first premiered in 1997, the musical was a sensational success. Based on Disney’s award-winning animated movie with the same name, The Lion King has always managed to thrill and entertain its audience with vibrant and intensely atmospheric African rhythm and unparalleled acting. This musical masterpiece has never lost its unique flavour in the two decades that it has been running at the Lyceum Theatre. Employing puppetry, sets, and costumes, a spectacular world is created depicting the tale of the lion, Simba. Before long, you will be completely engrossed in a kaleidoscope of vivid colours and Elton John’s Oscar-winning music in this must-watch musical adaptation.
The Story
The Lion King follows the story of Simba, a lion-cub who must inherit his father’s kingdom, the Pride Lands. Simba spends his time exploring the land, fascinated by the beasts of the Serengeti Plains of Africa. The mischievous young lion often goes looking for trouble until a tragic event shatters his spirit. He must now fight his uncle, Scar, and reclaim what rightfully belongs to him. The Lion King is a story filled with immense philosophical value and the perfect tinge of humour brought in by the hilarious duo, Timon and Pumba. The musical blends extremes like pain and pleasure, love and hate, betrayal and loyalty, in a unique fashion. Although the story itself draws inspiration from many other famous tales, the expression of these basic ideals through personification and music is simply irresistible.
