In 1895, Östersund has gained a rail link with the outside world and now society is being modernized with new industrial products. Many move into the city, which grows fast with the measurements of time. There are now more than 8000 visitors. There is always a lack of shelter. In the bridgehouse below the action, Gulle lives two families in a room and kitchen. Laundry Mrs. Svensson lives in the kitchen and sailor Mrs Otterström lives with husband and children in the house. Customers come and go to the little backyard.
