Hôtel de Choisity

Description

Beautiful 16th-century residence, owned in 1595 by Jean Sauvan, a wealthy merchant. Above the door, on the frieze of the entablature, two intertwined palms and olive branches.
Above the doorway are the letters JS (Jean Sauvan) and at the ends the letters AS (Antoine Sauvan, his son).
The façade features three superimposed levels: the first floor, the first floor and the attic (where the servants lived).
These are separated by moldings resting on brackets placed on the window jambs. Windows are small on the first floor, as they are more vulnerable. They become larger on the upper floor and smaller again on the attic.
Under the roof, you can see a row of oves in high relief. The door is surmounted by a curved pediment framing an afterthought cartouche. The hotel is arranged around a rectangular courtyard, with a vast, flat-vaulted vestibule, a baluster staircase and a square dining room with fireplace.
