Hôtel de Posquières

The 17th-century Hôtel des Posquières (former name of Vauvert), lord of Aramon, is topped by a tower with a glazed tile roof. The west facade features a typical 17th-century square door, Renaissance frieze, Baroque fruit vases...
The south-facing facade features a watchtower and the remains of a gallery and staircase leading up to it. An underground passage, known as the "Saunerie", leads from the hotel to store the salt that made Aramon's fortune thanks to the toll levied on boats sailing up the Rhône.
The Posquières became famous thanks to François de Posquieres who, after serving the king on the battlefield, retired to Aramon and in 1703 created the "Order of Drink and Strict Observance".
This Order honored the pleasures of the table, while at the same time serving as a mutual aid society for its members.
A plaque was affixed to this façade in 2003 by the Société des Costières de Nîmes in tribute to François de Posquières.
