Urcuit is a welcoming village that has successfully preserved its cultural heritage.
The Church of Saint-Étienne in Urcuit is a Labourd-style church located in Urcuit in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
A document from 1083 mentions the church “Sanctus Stephanus de Auricocta.” The parish church, dedicated to Saint Étienne, was under the jurisdiction of the Premonstratensian Abbey of Lahonce. It was renovated in the third quarter of the 19th century. The date 1866 is inscribed on the south elevation. However, the arched portal under the porch predates the renovations and can be dated to the 15th century.
This church features chain-carved galleries as well as a magnificent altarpiece. You can also see some very old disc-shaped steles.
