Affluent of the Gartempe, this river is graded in 1st category from the D942 between the Dorat and Magnac-Laval until the D220 near Arnac-la-Poste, and is a category 2 river from the D942 between Le Dorat and Magnac-Laval until the Gartempe near Thiat. Sinuous, bordered by wooded lifts and also deep sometimes, it flows through a granitic valley. Near the village called Breuil, you may reach the confluent betwwen the Brame and the Gartempe, here you will find the Saut de la Brame: three falls in a row which are three meters high all in all (classified site for its botanical importance). Downstream, the valley gets wider and some rocks causes some slipstreams and tiny falls. Many fish species are to be found: trouts (near the Saut de la Brame), roaches (at the lock of Cheix, near the Bazeuge river), perches, tenches, pickerels (pretty rare), catfishes, and gudgeons. The most used fishing technics are spin fishing, angling, one rod in a hand. As a 1st graded river, only one rod per angler is allowed with maximum 2 hooks and 3 artificial flies, and maggots are forbidden. On the 2nd grade rivers, 4 fishing rods are allowed per angler. A fishing license is required to fish in this area. Fishing licences sold: at the Dorat (at Rura Lim "Dorat" and at the tourist office of the Basse Marche), at Magnac-Laval (at Magnac Jardi Loisirs), and at Saint Sornin Leulac (at the town-hall), or on the website www.cartedepeche.fr.
