Sailly-Laurette: Along the Prisoners of War Route

On 8 August 1918, Sailly-Laurette was the first village to be captured by the British Army’s 3rd Army Corps. This paved the way for the Allied push eastwards. In the days following the offensive, columns of prisoners being sent to the rear regularly passed through the village.

This route for prisoners passed through the village of Sailly-Laurette, then through Sailly-le-Sec, before crossing the Somme and heading towards Villers-Bretonneux and then Amiens.
