The village of Aramon is strongly marked by the presence of the Rhône, with the prosperity of its port in the 17th century.

Situated at the confluence of the Rhône and Gardon rivers, Aramon is strongly marked by the presence of water. The prosperity of its port in the 17th century led to the construction of numerous mansions by Forton, Jossaud, Posquières, Laudun, Saint-Jean and Choisity.

The arrival of the railroad in 1878 signaled the decline of the port. The market was created. Crafts flourished. In 1962 and 1980, the town experienced a new boom with the arrival of industry.
Aramon is now a prime tourist destination, a welcoming gateway to the Uzège region.

The Capitelles, Levadon, Garrigue and Castillones hiking trails (brochures available from the Tourist Office), walk along the old quays of the Rhône, discover the nature area l'îlot d'Alfred à la Lône (10 hectares), the weekly Wednesday morning market.

The old town center: St-Pancrace church (12th-17th c.) and its 1st-century Roman funerary stelae inside and out.

The Château d'Aramon with its high wall (12m), part of the ramparts. The castle is built around a square tower topped with battlements and a turret, and dominates the countryside. Henry II presented the castle to his favorite, Diane de Poitiers, who was lord of Aramon from 1547 to 1566.

The château suffered extensive damage during the religious wars and the French Revolution. Renovations in the 18th and 19th centuries gave it its current appearance.
It has been owned by the Sauvan d'Aramon family since 1653.

There's no shortage of famous people to meet along the way. The birthplace of Henri Pitot, who built the road bridge next to the Pont du Gard (1745) and invented the famous Pitot tube.
The Hôtel particulier, where François de Posquières founded the first bachique order in 1703, "L'Ordre de la Boisson et de la Stricte Observance", which has now been taken over by Costières du Gard.
