Le Nezerth

Le Nezerth
Credit : Lorient Agglomération

Description

Passing through Nezerth village, you will get an idea of the quality of the rural heritage of the Plouay hamlets. The farms, dating back as far the 16th century, used natural building materials, granite, earth, wood, rye straw which today has been replaced by slate. The bread ovens, washhouses and wells use similar building techniques.

Le Nezerth has a dozen or so old, preserved buildings, houses, barns and bread ovens, scattered around and side by side, through which the narrow street winds. Although they have been altered, these old farmhouses still have some of the round-arched basket-handle doors characteristic of the 17th and 18th centuries, and some of the more elaborate features, such as this house, which combines a round-arched basket-handle door with a small round-arched bay topped with a fleur-de-lis.
