To walk round a piece by Philippe Parrinello is to enter a world. The artist draws on his encounter with wood to find the thread of his narratives. Just as a seed remembers the tree it once was, here the sculpture does not forget the tree it once was. Sculpting is not merely about striking or holding back; the intimate encounter begins with the gaze. What stories, trapped beneath the bark, will he be able to set free?
