Presented by the Association pour la promotion des arts et créations artistiques (APACA) in partnership with the town.
Camille Gauthier is a cabinetmaker and furniture designer from Lorraine. He studied with the painter Jules Larcher at the École des Beaux-Arts in Nancy, before joining the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1891.
After starting out with Louis Majorelle in 1893 as a draftsman in the design office, he set up his own business, Gauthier-Poinsignon. His craftsmanship was inspired by the naturalist repertoire, and he was one of the major creators of Art Nouveau, still little known to the general public.
This exhibition in the salons of Château Madame de Graffigny will combine reconstructed pieces, furniture and Art Nouveau friezes to give visitors a glimpse into his world. Spearheaded by two renowned experts - Justine Posalski, a doctorate in art history, and Fabrice Kunegel, a specialist in Art Nouveau - this project is part of the promotion of local artistic heritage, in keeping with the cultural identity of the Nancy area.
The exhibition is coordinated by the Association laxovienne pour la promotion des arts et créations artistiques (APACA), whose aim is to promote artistic and cultural creation and national heritage, notably by disseminating them.
