Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne (7683 inhabitants) is the sub-prefecture of the Maurienne district. Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne is a welcoming stopover, at the crossroads of some of the world's most legendary mountain passes, and is undoubtedly the world capital of cyclists.
Very attached to its heritage, the town is home to the Opinel Museum, which has become one of the most popular in Savoie. A city of history, don't miss its cathedral and its museum of costume, arts and popular traditions.
Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne is an ideal base camp for climbing the cols, and has already hosted the Tour de France 6 times.
Every Saturday, the town comes alive with a large market.
All year round, events and shows liven up life in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne. The Gérard Philipe theater in particular offers a varied program.
