La saline "Tenue de Mareil"

Situated between the sea and the countryside, in the Lyarne marshes, this salt marsh was rehabilitated by enthusiasts in the 2000s. Since then, salt production has been revived thanks to the restoration of this departmental saltworks by the Patrimoine 2MB association.

Christophe Joguet, salt worker at the Tenue de Mareil salt works, arrived at the end of 2023. He succeeds salt worker Mélanie Daspremont, who now operates the Ileau saltworks in Villeneuve-en-Retz.

When can you visit the saltworks?


Individual guided tours: in July and August on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 6pm (no booking required). Tours last 1h30.
Guided group tours: from May to September, book by telephone or directly with the Tourist Office's "Groups" department.

Where can you buy salt from the "Tenue de Mareil" saltworks?


Directly from the salt works, in July and August, Monday to Saturday, 10.30am to 12pm and 5.30pm to 7pm, from the salt worker.
at the Moutiers-en-Retz tourist office and in the Villeneuve-en-Retz, La Bernerie-en-Retz, La Plaine-sur-Mer, Préfailles and Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef tourist offices.
at the Moutiers-en-Retz market on Thursdays and Saturdays in July and August, organised by the Patrimoine 2MB association.



The "Tenue de Mareil" saltworks is one of the local producers in Moutiers-en-Retz presented by the Destination Pornic Tourist Office.
