Place du Marché (Market square)

Description

Place du Marché, a true forum of Liège, was the main square of Liège in the Ancien Régime era. It was bombarded in 1691 by the troops of Louix XIV and the majority of the buildings on the square date from the end of the 17th and 18th centuries. Behind the houses, the dome of the church of Saint André can be seen. The present church was built in the second half of the 18th century according to the plans of Barthélemy Digneffe. The Place du Marché is also the site of two of Liège’s major monuments: the Perron and City Hall.
