Carmel Saint-Joseph was founded in 1853 by nuns from the Carmelite convent in Libourne, at the request of the Bishop of Aire. The community flourished until the end of the twentieth century, and in 2008 the nuns decided to close it due to a lack of new vocations. The property was donated to the Chemin Neuf Community. The vocation of the site was to provide retreats, sessions and spiritual offerings. The association "Les Amis du Carmel Saint-Joseph d'Aire-sur-l?Adour" was created to define a coherent overall project to bring this place back to life. The aim is to revitalize the Carmel, remaining faithful to the 3 dimensions of its original vocation: a place to live, a place to pray and a place to work. By adding a place to share and a place to welcome.
