Les Mines de Larla
Description
The site of the Larla mines is located in Saint Martin d'Arrossa, in the Nive Valley, 40 km from Bayonne and 15 km from Saint Jean Pied de Port. The Larla mountain is home to the oldest iron mine in the Pyrenees. You will discover an archaeological site in a remarkable natural setting.
Two footpaths allow you to discover the rich archaeological heritage preserved: the site of the old iron mines still has 3 km of surface mining work, nearly 60 metallurgy workshops from the Roman period, gallery entrances, driving tracks... The Larla iron mines interpretation trails: discovery trail: duration: 1h45 - distance: 3.2 km - altitude difference: 180m. Miners' trail: duration: 4h30 - distance: 9.4 km - difference in height: 550m.
