Footbridge La Belle-Liégeoise

Passerelle La Belle-Liégeoise

Description

The name of this footbridge is a tribute to Théroigne de Méricourt. Nicknamed la belle Liégeoise (the beautiful woman from Liège), she was one of the leading figures in the French Revolution. This new bridge for cyclists and pedestrians is just over 300 metres long and was completed in 2016. It is framed by another bridge on each side: to the right, the Fragnée bridge built for the 1905 World’s Fair and, to the left, the Albert I bridge, built after the Second World War. Also on the left side is the city’s Convention Centre, characterised by its glass façade overlooking the river Meuse. It was built between 1956 and 1958 for the 1958 Universal World’s Fair.
