The Aube has a large concentration of megaliths, mainly gathered in the northwest part of the department, the Nogentais. Menhirs, dolmens and polishers, so many stones which testify to a very distant past, the final Neolithic (2500 to 2000 BC). The men of this era used an abundant material on the territory, the Cookian sandstone formed in the Lower Eocene (53 million years BC). This explains the presence of megalithism on our territory.
