Credit : Droits gérés

Description

This stele is located at the "herbée", meadow on the edge of the forest, on the slopes of the "Malgré-Tout".
The "Malgré-Tout" is the place where the action of the book of George Sand takes place largely.

Text from the novel "Malgré-Tout" by George Sand

"Monday, September 20, 1869: Good night in Charleville, a little short. I go to bed at one o'clock; I get up at six; it doesn't matter, I'm as fit as a fiddle. The weather threatens and clears up. We take a boat and we go down the Meuse, clear and fast until Laifour where we order lunch in a micaschistbouty's house whose aspect does not appeal to Toto. The boat takes us down again to the Dames de Meuse, where we board to walk a little. What a nice place! It is one of my paradise. We come back by boat to the micaschist house, which is very clean and where we have a very good lunch. Fresh fish, game, exquisite butter. Spelt bread, very good. We cross the Meuse again by boat, to take the convoy in front of us. Small well situated station where the station master can serve as a type because of his position. We go to sleep in Givet.
Tuesday, September 21, 1869: Yesterday evening, after having crossed the delicious stations of Revin and Fumay through the rain, we find in Givet the best of our lodgings and not very expensive: Hotel du Mondor. Remember it. I sleep there quickly and well. Toto is sick in the night; his mother does not sleep and they cannot continue..."
