A bit of history...
The Tower known as "Gregory's Tower" to which we should give back its former name of "Saint Gregory" from the name of the chapel that was nearby, and probably one of the oldest buildings in Givet.
Already in the 11th century, and no doubt on the site of a much older military post, it watched over the river to ensure the return of tolls for the Counts of Agimont.
It was later heavily reworked, probably in the 15th or 16th century, and was heavily restored under Napoleon III. It nevertheless keeps its primitive shape for the lower floors.
