Camp Romain

Camp Romain
Credit : Droits gérés

Description

At the confluence of two valleys, the Viroin and the Meuse-Vireux Molhain has always occupied a strategic place for military control of the region.
From the third century, the Roman implant a military camp on the heights of Molhain on the edge of this rocky outcrop overlooking the valley.

From this former fortification, defended by a thick wall, still remain :  the two towers at the angles of the surrounding wall, a bread oven, a circular fireplace and a cemetery.
Many medieval remains are still visible.
On the "Mount Vireux", follow the trails of the legionnaires who defended Roman Gaul against the Germanic invasions in the early third century.
On site, you will find a perfect picture that mixes heritage and nature.
Other point of interest: the view overlooking the valley of the Meuse and the Viroin.
