Bligny-Chambrecy Italian Cemetery

Bligny-Chambrecy Italian Cemetery
Credit : Droits gérés

Description

In 1918, Italy sent 41 000 troops to fight in France to counter the German offensive in Champagne and on the Chemin des Dames.
The cemetery of Bligny-Chambrecy houses the bodies of 3 440 of these fighters.
The Monument to the Garibaldians, located at the entrance of the site, pays tribute to Italian volunteers who incorporated the Légion étrangère in 1914 and fell in the Argonne during winter 1914-1915.
On the other side of the road, in front of the cemetery itself, was reconstructed a Roman road lined with cypress trees, leading to a broken column.
