Jean-Pierre Dupré reads ‘L'Usage du monde’, Nicolas Bouvier's cult book
Published in 1963 and subsequently reissued, L'Usage du monde has gradually become a classic of travel literature. 10 years earlier, Nicolas Bouvier drove his little Fiat 500 from Bulgaria to Pakistan. Six months of wandering, adventure, strolling and discovery. A way of taking one's time, time to look, time to meet people, time to lose oneself, but also time to discover oneself. A model journey for all those who, after him, will take to the road in search of the world but also of themselves. The respectful use of the world for self-discovery. And in the background, a serious question that has come up since the middle of the 20th century: we know that travel is not innocent, but what harm does it do? Can we still travel as Nicolas Bouvier did?
