Description

The Mont Aigoual observatory stands at an altitude of 1,567 metres. It is the highest point in the Gard département and dominates the southern slopes of the Cévennes arc.
A new tool for territorial identity and proximity to climate change.
Located in the heart of the Cévennes National Park, the Observatoire du Mont Aigoual is a landmark of environmental, heritage and scientific history. It was on this historic site that the decision was made to set up an interpretation and awareness center, based on the history of a site dedicated to scientific and technical research since its creation in
1894 to scientific and technical research.

In fine weather, the panorama is exceptional, stretching from the Alps to the Pyrenees, from the Puy de Sancy to the Mediterranean. This visibility is rare and often ephemeral, as the summit is characterized by harsh and violent climatic conditions.

After four years' work, the Mont Aigoual Observatory opens its doors on July 1, 2023, becoming France's first center for interpretation and awareness of climate change. Located in the heart of the Cévennes National Park,
