A former fief and seigneury, Château des Forges must have looked more like a fortified house than a castle.
Although the exact date of its construction is not known, it could have been a stopover for the Knights Templar on their way down from Laval to Santiago de Compostela.
The discovery of shards of partridge-eyed pottery would suggest as much. It is thought to have been destroyed around 1620, but thanks to research carried out since 1993, the ruins are gradually emerging. Today, its final shape is practically defined.
Les Amis du Château, the association in charge of maintaining and protecting the site, welcomes you all year round by prior arrangement: guided tour of the site, introduction to archaeology, demonstration of medieval combat, fouée meals, etc.
