The association Les Amis du Vieux La Ciotat, which manages this museum, has preserved the memories of the past to present them to the public.
The association Les Amis du Vieux La Ciotat invites you to discover local life through more than 15,000 items from its private collection. From the archaeology gallery to the history of La Ciotat’s economy, centred on the maritime shipping lines and shipyards, via the inventions of the cinematograph and pétanque, you are taken on a journey in the company of illustrious figures (poets, great navigators, etc.) who have shaped the centuries. Brought to life through scenes of daily life, traditional life (cultural, religious, agricultural and fishing) with its customs and traditions is brought to life in full scale.
The Musée Ciotaden, which holds the ‘Musée de France’ accreditation, welcomes you to the former town hall, a municipal building listed as a Historic Monument.
The association, in partnership with the Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs (DRAC), the Bouches-du-Rhône Departmental Committee and the town of La Ciotat, brings these prestigious premises to life through temporary exhibitions on heritage themes, as well as talks, screenings and workshops.
