He first lived in Saumur Saumur and then, as a negociant, in Caude?ran Caude?ran near Bordeaux. Most of his customers were Paris hotels, which he visited before prospecting in Normandy. In 1906, he married Marguerite Liber Meymac with Marguerite Libouroux, daughter of a family of wine merchants. He then set up the Gratadour-Libouroux trading house in Bordeaux. Around 1920-1930, he had a house built in the Gaud district, which he named Villa les Marguerites.
