Dating back to the 1st century BC, the galleries of the Catacombs were originally formed by ancient quarrying. As time passed, the network of subterranean tunnels developed into a complex labyrinth of passageways that would ultimately become the final resting place of some 6 million skeletons. These bones were exhumed from various Parisian cemeteries in 1786, when hygiene-related sickness was spreading across the city accompanied by a pungent, putrid odor, forcing the authorities to address the overflowing burial grounds with a large-scale relocation project.
You’ll start your tour of this chillingly fascinating site with direct access to the Catacombs, avoiding the long lines at the entrance (regularly a 2-hour wait).
Led by your expert guide, you’ll be taken on a 2-hour tour to explore over 2km of the dark tunnels and crypts that make up this “Empire of the Dead”…

* This activity is not accessible to wheelchairs, pushchairs, or people with reduced mobility (access via hundreds of steps)

Cancellation terms
Cancellations free of charge until 7 days before the activity
No charges will be levied for cancellations made more than 7 days before the date of the activity (excluding special dates). After this, the following charges will be levied:
Between 7 and 4 days prior: 50% of the price
After this time and in case of a no-show: 100% of the price
Any reservation made for special dates cannot be cancelled, modified or refunded.
