Butte féodale de la Ferté Saint Samson

Remnants of the Hundred Years' War are the "bels", elevations of land with large ditches, which were fortified points. These mottes feudales (wooden fortresses dominating a flattened area) enabled the region to be dominated from any attack.
Today, a beautiful orientation table (the work of Juliette and Jacques Damville) offers one of the finest panoramic views of La Boutonnière! (Orientation table 5 on the Route des Paysages)
Designed in ceramic, copper and lead, it evokes both a defensive tower with loopholes and a crown adorned with set enamels. The seven traditional planets, represented by seven coloured spheres, punctuate the upper plane of the panorama and stand out against the sky. The table?s overall spiral shape underlines the constant link between past and present: the spiral starts from a medieval representation of the sky and ends in the half-spherical cap, a contemporary astronomical evocation of the Messier 51 galaxy.
