La Motte Castrale d'Olivet

The motte castrale d'Olivet in Grimbosq is an earth and wood fortification built around 1040-1050 by a family of small lords to ensure their control of the territory. Its hilltop location adds to its defensive character. The motte consists of a mound with a palisade, a wooden watchtower and a bailey surrounded by an earthen rampart and moat. The farmyard houses the residential and agricultural buildings.

Access via the Chêne Guillot parking lot (Grimbosq forest). Follow the yellow signposted path.
