Description

Located close to the train station in Rouen, Ferdinand Marrou's house was completed in 1890. In the mind of its creator, it probably represented a life-size advertisement, like a catalogue of his know-how combining carved wood and forged and embossed iron. The house was designed by the Rouen architect, Emile Janet, based on an overall design by Ferdinand Marrou. As for the decor, Marrou hired a team of craftsmen, who were often involved in major architectural projects in the region at the end of the 19th century.

Marrou's house is currently used as the setting for the exhibition "Madame Rêve en Bovary" (Madame Bovary and dreams) as part of the 200th anniversary of Gustave Flaubert's birth in 2021. The innovative display by Jean Oddes takes visitors on an immersive journey and contemporary interpretation of the novel.
