A water well is the product of mechanized vertical terracing. Water can be brought up to the surface using a bucket or a pump, either manual or automatic. Wells vary widely in terms of drilling method, depth, water volume and equipment.
The well must be large enough for one person to work in, and its depth is linked to that of the water table.
Excavating a well requires several individuals: one person at the bottom of the hole uses a pickaxe to extract the earth, which is then placed in a bucket and brought to the surface by another team member.
