This two-hour self-guided walk invites you to discover the history and heritage of Franquevaux, a hamlet whose origins date back to a 12th-century abbey. The walk starts from the J. Torres area.
The route, marked with explanatory panels, consists of five stages. QR codes can be scanned to access detailed information about the life of the abbey and the creation of the hamlet in 1791. A downloadable booklet is also available to accompany the visit.
Along the way, points of interest are highlighted, such as the school, the railway station, the forge, the cellar, and finally the Rhône-Sète canal bridge. The latter offers a remarkable view of the ponds and reed beds, illustrating the rich landscape and ecology of the site.
Franquevaux, classified as a Grand Site d'Occitanie and Grand Site de France, is part of the Camargue Biosphere Reserve recognised by UNESCO. The Balade du Moine trail complements the Franquevaux interpretive trail, inaugurated in 2020. The trail's information panels, located on the right, are linked to the metal supports of the interpretive trail, installed on the left.
