Place Royale
Description
In the heart of Pau?s historic center, between Boulevard des Pyrénées and the Château, Place Royale links the funicular railway, Rue Louis-Barthou and Hôtel de Ville in a few steps. This majestic balcony, suspended over the river, offers a panoramic view of the Pyrenees, from the Pic du Midi d?Ossau to the Pic du Midi de Bigorre.
Under the lime trees, the terraces rustle with cheerful conversation at mealtimes.
Created in 1688 to house a statue of Louis XIV, it embodies the royal elegance and gentle pace of life in Palais. Today, Henri IV dominates it, the Hôtel de Ville keeps watch, the funicular climbs up it, and memories are whispered.
An obvious place to stop, between city and horizon, to soak up history, stroll or dream in front of Pau?s most beautiful panorama.
