Halfway between Ferrensac and Montaut, in the north of the Lot et Garonne department, at the top of a hill from which you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view, stands the small church of Saint Martin - Transfort.
Its underground passage, discovered around 1860 by the Moulin de Ferrensac family, who owned the land at the time, served as a refuge for the hamlet's families.
In 1981, Franc Lasgoute, who had loved the site since his earliest childhood, set about rebuilding his church and preserving the underground passageway.
Why would we leave his church in ruins? Take heart and, like our consuls of yesteryear, climb to the top of its wooded knoll, perfumed with boxwood and cypress. You'll be proud to find your church restored, and a little mystery in the shape of its underground passageway, a refuge dug into the tufa rock by our Gallic ancestors long before Julius Caesar!
