Nestled in a complete verdant space, the “Chartreuse de Valbonne” unfolds its atypical architecture and proudly displays its multicoloured tiles, with a Burgundian trace.
Founded in the 13th century, it occupies the small valley within the beautiful forest of Valbonne which still contains today rare essences in Provence. Though before, this small “oasis” was a swampy valley only. The efforts and patience of a dozen monks were needed to clear and cleanse the area, before the vaults of this edifice could be raised. The place then became the vallis bona, where the name Valbonne derives from. It has been listed as a historical monument since 1959, and the Charterhouse kept the authenticity of its monastic cells from its centuries of history, and they are now re-established for our visitors with the utmost fidelity. Around the Charterhouse, come and wander through its interpretive trail leading you to the forest, while bringing a well sought-after freshness during the summer.
