Halle de Puget

Halle de Puget

Description

Designed by Pierre Puget and erected in 1672, the Puget Hall housed fish merchants and butchers' stalls.
What was the exact role of Pierre Puget from Marseille, nicknamed the Michelangelo of France? Research has shown that a master mason Pierre Puget, a perfect namesake, worked on the building. This hall, with its 20 Ionic columns, looks like an ancient temple, but it is such an elegant work that Puget may have left his mark .... ?

In the 19th century, it was walled up and transformed into a chapel, then into a Commissariat in the early 20th century. Abandoned in the 1980s, it threatened to collapse. A restoration campaign was then launched and the hall found its most beautiful aspect.

In 2022, the market returned to its former vocation when it became home to the stalls of 8 local market gardeners offering fresh fruit and vegetables 3 days a week: a project aimed at revitalizing the Belsunce district.
