Here, between Allauch and Aubagne, in the village of La Treille, we sit at the gateway to the Garlaban hills, in the middle of Pagnol, and eat Provence Marseille.
The terrace acts as a bridge between us and the natural world so dear to the fabulous storyteller. Marcel is buried here, in the cemetery along the road leading to the restaurant. Le Cigalon is indeed the setting for his film of the same name (shot in 1935), in which a talented chef decides to no longer tolerate customers he deems unworthy of his cuisine. These days, there are no more grumpy cooks, and "we serve the customers!
On the menu, pieds paquets, headless larks, lamb tatin and game. No thrush... No Lili des Bellons...
